Story by City News Service:

A fire damaged a one-story commercial building in North Hollywood today, but no one was hurt.
Crews responded to the Dollar Deluxe at 12020 Victory Blvd., near
Laurel Canyon Boulevard, just after 1 a.m. and encountered fire coming from the building, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The bulk of the flames were extinguished by about 2:10 a.m., and a
knockdown was declared about an hour afterward, the LAFD reported. Some firefighters remained on scene, dousing hot spots.
At one point in the battle, a crack in the facade of the building
created a high risk of a collapse, prompting the incident commander to pull firefighters out of the business and assume a defensive stance, fighting the flames from outside the structure, LAFD Capt. Cory Weireter said.
The 8,111-square-foot building, built in 1957, had a “significant
fire load” due to the large amount of contents inside the structure, the LAFD reported. A total of 99 firefighters were sent to the scene, Stewart said.
